SW Basket (Tribe ???)

7" tall, 6" top diameter, 4.5" bottom diameter, 8.5" widest diameter. Although there are many stitch breaks the basket remains physically rigid. The basket appears to be very old. It needs to be cleaned, but has a nice warm patina rich coloring. This basket was woven to be a sturdy utilitarian basket and would make a good addition to anyone's collection. This fine tlingit rattle-top basket is in near-perfect, museum quality condition. It remains tightly woven with no splits, frays or cracks. Colors are subtle, but un-faded. Wasco/Wishxam Basket of the Pacific NW

The Wasco/Wishxam (on left) basket was created by Louise Van Pelt Spino. She was the last to carry on the tradition and passed away in 1971. Dimensions: 4"H x 6" Diameter. It is in excellent condition with very good contrast for a basket that is at least 50 years old. Information on it's style can be found in the book: "Columbia River Basketry" by Mary Dodds Schlick. $3000 Item #10126.

Very Old Storage Basket This large basket was excavated in the 1965/69 time frame on the Cline ranch in the upper Tonto Basin area of Arizona. It is in near perfect condition with the exception of a small hole in the lower back side of the basket that was probably made by rats after the grain it contained. The basket was recovered touching a Hohokam pioneer period effigy. The item still has corn ears attached to it with the distinctive square knot. Rare Modoc Portrait Basket (Captain Jack)

One of two known "Captain Jack" portrait baskets. In April 1873, Captain Jack (Kintpuash) a Modoc Chief and several other Modocs participated in peace meeting aimed at settling a tense situation. Things got out of hand and General Canby was shot and killed and several others were wounded. Jack was later captured and hanged with three other Modocs. This basket has had some repair.
